Emergency Preparedness & Response

Mahalo to everyone who came out for our Oct. 26 Town Hall. Excellent presentations on emergency preparedness and response by County Officials (Civil Defense, Fire, Police, Public Works, Parks & Recreation) and community partners (Hawaiian Electric, Vibrant Hawai‘i, Hawai‘i Tracker).

Download a copy of our Town Hall handout, which includes resources like our region’s siren location and status map, household preparedness guides, shelter info, hub locations, and more.

Let’s Talk Sustainability & Resilience

Hosted in partnership with Dept. of Research & Development, the Town Hall featured presentations from Hawaiian Electric and Hawai‘i Energy. R&D leadership shared how Hawai‘i County is advancing a more sustainable and secure island community.

Council District 4: Term Priorities

Mahalo to all who attended our March 23 District Town Hall. Nearly 80 folks came out throughout the evening! We were so impressed – and stoked – to see so many residents engaged. We will convene these every few months! One of the top concerns brought up was public safety – especially within Downtown Pāhoa and criminal activity within our neighborhoods.

Our action commitment: We are co-hosting a summit to bring County, community, nonprofits, and business together to identify solutions and demonstration projects to address long-standing issues in our major town centers. We are also exploring what a community court could look like for Pāhoa. Finally, we are moving forward with legislation to address the issue of squatters as well as vacant, abandoned, and deteriorating properties.
