Paint Pāhoa Town is a paint refresh project aimed at revitalizing buildings in Downtown Pāhoa.

The goal is to enhance the aesthetic of storefronts with vibrant-colored paint and integrate murals, art motifs, and patterns that elevate Puna’s culture, people, and mo‘olelo.

Special mahalo to Puna residents Hau‘oli Yockeman and Chas Quihano for leading coordination of paint refresh events.

A town’s appearance reflects the cultural identity, values, and narrative of a community. Studies show that transforming the built environment through activities like paint refreshments, art installations, and landscaping not only enhances public safety but also generates economic benefits for a community. Paint Pāhoa Town strives to uplift residents, bolster local business, and cultivate a stronger sense of community pride.

In the summer of 2024, Downtown Pāhoa will receive public art installations renowned Puna-based artists Nainoa Rosehill, Anthony “Hawkeye” Donohas, and Kai Kaulukukui. Their art will not only beautify the area but also serve as poignant reflections of Puna’s unique spirit and culture.
